I am saddened to learn of the passing of Miss Marvelle. She is another of those rooted in the pioneer stock who setteled our beautiful valley that encompasses Garfield County. May she rest in peace. I want to give my condolences to the extended Manupella and Couey families of Miss Marvelle. She was an inspiring lady. Talk about someone who knew how to face adversity with courage and strength! I think her Starbuck genes were probably part of that. Whatever made her who she was--she had some great qualities to aspire to. May all of you be blessed with peace as you reflect on her life and the legacy she has left within each of you.

I was fortunate to meet Marvelle Couey in the fall of 1998 when Mesa Hydrocarbons, Inc. purchased Daniels Petroleum. Barry Baker took me to meet Marvelle, we met in the kitchen of the old house, when we walked in a rifle was laying on the table facing the door. I remember Barry sitting on her right and me on the left. The meeting was dominated by Marvelle on how much she hated Oil & Gas Company's, after about an hour I said that I had a meeting to go too; as we started to get up she gapped my right wrist very firmly and told me that "if you do half the things you say you'll do we will get along pretty good but if you don't your not any better than the rest of those ___________"? Though the years I had many meetings with her, many times just to chat and have a cup of coffee. Marvelle was a wonderful women, eccentric, courageous, intelligent, witty and one tough lady. I will always have a special place in my heart for her and feel blessed that I knew her.

Aunt Marvelle will always hold a special place in my heart. I admired her above all other women. I pray I can be half the person she was with the time I have left on this earth. She was honest, fair, strong & she had a loving heart. She was a true cowgirl, and she was always a lady. My heart & prayers go out to the entire family.
